Poetry Reflection
3/25/15
Prompts: 1) Poetry can be a vital, real part of everyone's life. What place or importance does poetry have in my own life? 2) Does poetry belong to everyone? How do I know? 3) How does the life and experiences of a poet affect the poem he/she creates?
Poetry in my life is important because it gives me something that I can relate to. Unlike books, poems can connect to peoples lives and maybe remember that they hope to never forget. "The Road not Taken" is a great example of this. It's about decisions which we all make and we can't redo those decisions. Poetry is also important in my life because it sends messages. Some book and other types of writing can do that, but poetry does it in a short and quick manner. Also, poetry makes sending a message interesting by adding a rhyme scheme.
I think that poetry does belong to everyone. I think this because everyone can like one poem, poem genre, or poet. Poems are like books, people might hate all of them, but one poem or genre. Another reason why I think poetry belongs to everyone is they can at least relate to one poem. This helps make poems relatable for everyone.
The poets life might affect the mood, setting, diction, or topic of the poem. For instance, Edgar Allan Poe's poems were dark and had a scary mood. This is because his childhood was filled with death and sicknesses. Another poet you can see this in is Pat Mora. She wrote "Gold" which is about a desert, the same area she grew up around. These examples show that a poets life can greatly affect their poems.
My Poems:
- Picture Poem
- Bio-Poem of a Literary Character
- Extended Metaphor Poem
- Where I'm From Poem
- Two-Voice Poem
- Spine Poem
- Found Poem
- Nonsense Poem
Great Job on your blog!! I really liked how you gave examples of how a Poet's life might affect their writing.
